The Ist Doha Artistic Gymanstic world cup series A began on Tuesday
with few surprises in the men section events at the Aspire dome. In
all, six apparatus events for men and four events for women were held
and in the qualification round, the first eight have reached the finals which will be held on Wednesday and thursday.
Prominent gymnasts who made their exit in the tournament in their
respective events are-Asian Games gold medalist Hiroyuki Tomita of
japan who is now ranked world number 8, failed to qualify for the
finals in the pommel horse event.. However Krisztian Berki of Hungary
who is world number one has qualified in pommel horse. In rings, world
number one Yuri Van Gelder of Netherlands also qualified to the
finals while world number seven A.Coppolino of Italy could not qualify
and is out of the championship.
Earlier Dimosthenis Tampakos of Greece who is ranked ninth in
Rings as per FIG rankings failed to qualify for the finals.
On Wednesday, the men finals will be in floor, pommel horse and rings
while for women it will be in vault, unevent bars.
Earlier Mr Abdul Rahman Al- Shathri the Presiden tof the Qatar
Gymanstics federation expressed happiness that this event have
attracted great attention and it could be judged from the response from
the qatar residents also who have come in large number to watch the
world 's best gymnasts in action.
